Our Spring Kolo Party will be May 1 at the Czech Club. The kitchen opens at 7:00, with Slavic foods and pastries, and we give dance instruction on on the basic steps.
“Kolo” dance means circle dance in Serbo-Croatian; traditionally done with the musicians playing in the middle of the circle of dancers. While the musicians seldom play in the center of the circle, and not all of the dances are circle dances, we bring in great bands from all over the region, and we have great fun.
The Spring Kolo Party is also our Zivio dancers' (and Jr. Zivio's) dress rehearsal for A World A'Fair—between dance sets.
Our biggest event of the year is A World A'Fair, May 14-16th at the Dayton Convention Center. This year our Zivio dancers will be performing a Bosnian suite—rehearsals began in January. The cultural booth theme is "a Musical Journey Around the World" and we will be designing the booth to reflect South-Slavic culture. And members will be baking many delicious pastries from the region, for sale at the booth.
